6 MMVAs Women Who Slay The Small Screen

Along with having a multitude of talents, we admire these iHeartRadio MMVAs presenters for playing female characters with a range of emotions and personalities beyond what we’re used to seeing on the screen.

Whether it’s Tatiana Maslany fighting the government for her many livelihoods or Carly Rae Jepsen playing the shy but ambitious Frenchy from Grease, here are all the times our MMVAs presenters played our favourite women.

Tatiana Maslany – Sarah, Helena, Cosima, Alison, Rachel and Beth (Orphan Black)

Maslany plays five completely different people in Orphan Black. She earned herself an Emmy for Best Lead Actress by excellently portraying their dynamic and sexually empowering personalities that, as you’ll see in the clip below, are a force not to be reckoned with.

Kat Graham – Bonnie (The Vampire Diaries)

If your attention span can’t handle four minutes of The Vampire Diaries, skip to the two-minute mark when Bonnie’s determination summons the powerful line of Bennett women, who collectively defeat the enemy.

Keke Palmer – Zayday (Scream Queens)

Palmer’s performance as the brilliant Akeelah in Akeelah and the Bee might’ve been your first encounter with the actor, but we’ve loved watching her evolve into a headstrong performer with a badass role as Zayday on Scream Queens.

Carly Rae Jepsen – Frenchy (Grease)

While we were hesitant to see Carly Rae as an actor—the transition from singer to actress isn’t always a smooth one—she was the perfect choice to play the shy yet confident Frenchy, whose ambition leads to an accidental pink hair-do (that Jepsen slays).

Shenae Grimes-Beech – Annie Wilson (90210)

Shenae Grimes-Beech made her way up from Degrassi to 90210 as one of the leads in the classic reboot, tackling typical high school dramas surrounded by palm trees instead of snow. Now she’s back as a street-smart detective in The Detail, working alongside a team of female lead investigators. As you can see below, Grimes is all too familiar with assuming the role of a hero.

Dove Cameron – Liv and Maddie (Disney’s Liv and Maddie)

Cameron is another actor playing wildly opposite personalities as identical twins in Disney’s Liv and Maddie. Hopefully, when she breaks out of the tween scene, we’ll get to see more of her diverse acting chops, seen in the scene below where she’s in a pretty convincing fight with her “twin.”

Make sure to look out for these leading ladies at the iHeartRadio MMVAs on June 18 9E/6P.
